Belgian botanist. He obtained a PhD in Botanical Sciences at the Catholic University of Louvain in 1925, and was a professor of botany in
Louvain later on. From 1931 to 1934 he was head of the botany section at the Africa Museum. Then became curator at the BG Garden in Brussels until 1939, responsible for the collections from the Belgian Congo, 1939 to 1960 responsible for the colonies. After the independence of the Congo, he was director general in the foreign ministry. He made numerous research trips to the Congo and accompanied the royal couple to South America, wrote a lot about plants from the Congo. His collections are kept in BR. |
