Description of the genus

Annual or short-lived perennial herbs, often branched. Leaves entire, linear to elliptic, flat or undulate. Inflorescence densely racemose, pedicels bracteate at the base. Calyx 5- partite. Petals 5, white, deciduous, inserted at the base of the disc. Ovary stipitate on the disc, of 5–6 whorled carpels. Follicles open. Seeds few.

Worldwide: 3 species in North- and tropical Africa.

Rwanda: 1 taxon.
